SA-MP 0.3.8 has been cancelled and won't be released as the main SA-MP branch. There is lack of interest in the downloading feature by most of the existing SA-MP servers.

Since some servers still want the downloading feature to be available now, 0.3.8 will be re-released as a seperate SA-MP version called 0.3.7-DL, which will be an optional download and have its own server lists. Parts of the existing 0.3.8 code that aren't related to model downloading will make their way in to 0.3.7 updates. Eventually the downloading feature will be part of a main SA-MP release, but the 0.3.8 version will be skipped.

OT: SA-MP was made to be SA-MP and not to be MTA 2, and we're all here cause we prefer this mod where there is a small difference between gta sa and the mp version of it so separating it wasn't a bad decision.

Exactly, I think it was too early to determine whether there was very little interest or not, I mean LS-RP made their server 3.8 and the Player-Base was still stable. Most servers, on the other hand, was just awaiting final release because there was still undiscovered bugs in the RC's version.

Because the sheer panic driven view count, isn't accurate.

Within an hour there were 3000 views on the first thread... You can hardly say that at that time there was 3000 people online at that time...

Not to mention the old view bot bullshit. We can't trust the view count due to this simple fact. People will make it go high, then say "Oh obviously this is needing to be looked at as so many are looking" yet you won't have any real evidence that they're all unique views.

Not really sure if it really was "the community lack of interest" in 0.3.8, or Kalcor's.
Not only this step costed heavy losses for server owners who have already spent much on custom models, but you disappointed many people here. (fully aware of the DL version, but it will only worsen things)
For once I thought updates were finally revived, appearently they won't be. (other than minor network exploits fixes and some tiny features.)

It's pretty sad that it has come to this. When i saw that 0.3.8 was suppose to come out that got me very excited as there hasn't been an update for a while and this update also included content that could be downloaded from the servers.. I don't understand how there could be a lack of interest for this?

I understand that there are game purists, that want the game as original as possible. The ability for them to play without mods would still be there, i mean just find a server that has no mods in it?? Mods would just make so many possibilities.. And mods could be made with the consideration of the original game developers, as in they could be made to look like they were suppose to be there all along.. For example, maybe some updated cars, some different skins etc.. Just by looking now at a Single-Player Feature servers, the owner has got it right and everything in that server feels like, it should of been there all along if there ever was a multiplayer server developed by Rockstar..

Eh, it's just pretty sad. And branching of a DL version is just going to be crap, like other have said.. If it's not official than whats the point?.. The only solution i see is for the major servers to start using the 0.3.7-DL version, so that Kalcor sees that there's actual interest in it.. If you have the playerbase, than you have people to follow you.

One good thing i guess about this, is for people like me who have no modeling experience and that can only script lol. But that's not such a good thing when you think about it.. I hope Kalcor changes his mind.

The RC wasn't official, so there's nothing for you to be complaining about. 0.3.8 is replaced with 0.3.7-DL, which has the 0.3.8 features.

That's the point though, it was going to become official. I have read the comments. People are moaning because there are going to be two different clients and one is going to be official(0.3.7), the other one is going to be not official (0.3.7-DL).. The people that were excited about 0.3.8 and were already implementing its features in their own servers, are left now with an unofficial version of 0.3.7-DL that is not going to be on the main page for downloading. Wouldn't you be pretty upset after testing 0.3.8 and setting up your server to run on it?
