FPS stutter/skip
#1

Hi all.

I have been playing at 90 FPS since the client-side /fpslimit command was added like 5+ years ago and have always had smooth gameplay. I bought a Titan X GPU last year and recently my framerate has been skipping/stuttering, although I'm getting 90+ FPS.

I have tried the following:
- GTA reinstall
- Frame limiter on/off
- /fpslimit at 60 FPS rather than 90
- Played about with all the Nvidia settings including V-sync etc.
- Reduced graphics to minimum
- Set PC to use 1 core (of 4)
- Set CPU process priority to high
- Updated all drivers
- Set Windows to lowest graphics settings
- Nothing running in background

Note:
- Game is on SSD hard drive
- RAM is 2400 MHz 16GB
- VRAM is 12GB

Some things make a tiny difference, but as I'm driving along my game will skip frames and/or stutter. Sometimes it can be minor, sometimes it can be very noticeable. At the moment it is not too bad, and I have attached a video below. Some people may say it is hardly noticable, but for me I notice every single skip and it makes the game unplayable for me. Doesn't happen in any other games. I can run GTA V on almost ultra settings and get 60 FPS..

I know GTA: SA is designed to run at 25 or 30 FPS and running it higher causes issues, but this has never been a problem until recently. Any suggestions? I want to run the game at 60 FPS at the least..

Sorry for the crappy phone video but I wanted to capture the skips without interference from recording software.

It kinda sounds similar to Romeorawr's issue in this topic http://forum.sa-mp.com/showpost.php?...68&postcount=8. I know you said you played with nividia settings but did you try the shader cache?

I have played with all of the NVidia settings and no difference. I just did another fresh reinstall and wiped all settings etc. and it's still the same problem. I don't understand how I've played the game for years without this problem and all of a sudden without me changing a THING I'm suddenly getting this shit..

This is my CPU usage while just idling on the Desktop with nothing running apart from background stuff.

Why am I getting sudden spikes in CPU usage?

This is my CPU usage while in GTA: SA

It seems my CPU is reaching maximum at times? Why would this be?

EDIT: I've been mainly focusing on the Frame Limiter and NVidia V-Sync settings. It seems that turning both off results in tearing, as expected, but it eliminates most of if not all of the stuttering.. But I can't play with screen tearing..

What's your CPU? Also go to 3d settings and set everything from quality etc to performance if you already haven't done that.

Also you should be fine having v-sync enabled.

CPU is Intel i7-6700K Quad Core 4.0 GHz

Ok. Is Speedshift / speed-step enabled in your mobo? If it is, that's probably causing the spikes ─ if you're not sure, see if it's doing it in a different game as well

Also did you put everything to performance instead of quality?

I don't know what "Speedshift / speed-step" is but I've looked through all my MB/BIOS settings and turned things on/off and nothing's changed.

I've tried setting everything to optimise performance also.

Basically speedshift or speedstep turns your voltages / core frequency up when doing tasks to allow your CPU to suck up more power. Those spikes can also be the cause of bottleneck but seeing your CPU I doubt that's the case.

Try downloading this and see if it still happens (you need asi loader)

I had this issue before man, but I don't remember what caused it. I've got a i7 7700k and a GTX 1080 Ti Aorus Xtreme so our hardware is sort of similar.

Are you using the steam version of gta sa or pirated/disk?

Okay I'm pretty sure I just fixed it.. As I said previously, I had played about with all the NVidia control panel settings, however I wasn't restarting the game and I don't think the settings were taking effect.

I have narrowed it down to one setting - 'Maximum pre-rendered frames'. This was set to 'Use 3D app settings' and I changed it to 1 and now there's no stuttering! Fingers crossed it stays this way.

Thank you for your help guys I appreciate it a lot.

Nice man. If stuttering happens again you can try this method too, even though it's from a different game
