Could be.
Then you possibly have your answer. I'd rather have the hardware available for 200 slots to avoid downtime whilst upgrading.

I can run a 20 slot server on a 300 MHz test server with 50MB ram. The only problem you may have is bandwidth, it eats up about 500MB a day per player.

I don't see why you need to start off with 200 player slots. If your server is a success then you should upgrade your player slots, but look at most internet servers, 0/100, 0/500, 0/200. I usually don't go on servers like that because most likely the owner is a beginner, owners should know their playerbase, and should have an appropriate slot base.
I only said that so I could know my limits. 200 slots = 200 players is what I ment basicly. How many players can it handle.

What could I handle with this:

Windows Vista Home Premium
Pentium Dual Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50Ghz (2 CPU's)
3GB Ram DDR3
Direct x10
1t Hard drive
Intel GMA
Intel Graphics Media Acceleration
gMax Graphics card

Adding more players will not help your servers

You need your pc not only with a Good Speed you need your Pc memory to be cleaned

All you'll need is just some (not too) old pc (or laptop, they work great when talking about electricity costs) wich might even be able running Linux Server Edition (or just the desktop version) and for the internet connection was for 100 players 4Mbps upstream required (according to Wiki) Also you'll need a good router (if u use any) wich u can configure to port forward (I suggest you can find that yourself on the internet or the routers manual)

All you'll need then is: www.whatismyip.com and pubish your IP with server ports to the world somewhere :P And you can play.

Hey, thanks for the reply. That was really helpful.

So you say around a 10Mb upstream can handle a 200 slot server correct? Regarding the laptop you mentioned. I do own a laptop, but I don't think the CPU spec is the greatest thing. Its just been sitting here for the past 2 years.

Dell Inspirion 1300
CPU: Pentium M 1.73Ghz - 2MB Cache
RAM: 2GB DDR2 533Mhz
HDD: 80GB IDE 5,400rpm
GPU: Intel 945.

Is the CPU good enough to run a 200 slot server? I doubt it, but worth a try.

A single core 1.73GHZ server / laptop wont really handle any type of application server.

Alright, no problem. I do have an older laptop though, its a Pentium 4 HT laptop. It has 3.0Ghz with a 1MB Cache and 1GB DDR Ram. Any use for that?

No, you'll need around 15mb/s upload for 200 players unless you want to use low sync rates. That said, you aren't really considering running a 200 slot server from home are you?

No, no relation. Now, to ask the main question. How much "bandwidth" is needed per month for... O, lets say a GF server running 200 players seamlessly for 1 whole month? Around 2TB's perhaps?

^ That is the main question.

Thanks!

Assuming your server will be 200/200 for a whole month, you'd use anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5tb (1mb/s over 1 month is ~330gb).

Hi, how did you work that out? 15MBps x 60 seconds x 1440 minutes/day x 30 days?

15MBps x 60 seconds x 1440 minutes/day x 31 days = 4.01TB's

That's what I got from my calculations. So I can see that 200 people, per month would need 4TB's of bandwidth. Well, that's been answered.

I am wondering though, why SA-MP only recommends half that at only 8MBps? Is that the bare minimum?

Another Hardware Question:

How many "players" can be hosted on the following CPU/RAM setups: (a P43.0HT can handle 200 players apparently.)

1) Core 2 Duo E7400 - 2.8Ghz 3MB Cache / 4GB DDR2 800Mhz Ram
2) 2 x Xeon Quad Core 2.0Ghz / 8GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
