Hardware/Bandwidth Requirements for a 200 Slot Server -
GTAPod - 31.12.2009
Hi, for an "example" (note... Example)
What would one average SA-MP player need to play a in a server without lag when connecting to a server? Lets say for an "example" I was to host a game from my own PC (example) I have a 4MB Download and 0.5MB Upload rate. How many players can I have on such a connection? I take it the upload rate applies here.
Now, another "example" question. How much bandwidth will a 100 slot server, with 100 players in the server at all times... Need per month? 1TB perhaps?
What Type of Hardware Will Be Needed To Run A 200 Slot Server? -
GTAPod - 31.12.2009
(putting the connection aside)
CPU: Pentium 4 3.2Ghz ~ Hyper Threading ~ 2MB Cache
RAM: 2GB DDR2 800Mhz
HDD: 80GB Sata 7,200rpm
Will a PC of this specification, be able to pull off and handle 200 players?

Yes of course, what's your connection (Not download, upload)?

10MB would not help .. You would need around 25-50MB Connection

If the server is actually full 24/7, the processor may get iffy on the bigger gamemodes.

Thank You! (someone that awnsered the qeustion
) I have 2 more questions:
1) Do I really need the 2GB of RAM? Or is 1GB DDR2 enough?
2) If I were to host 2 servers from this machine, both 100 slot, how will it perform? (Let's say GF GM's?)
Thanks!

Anyone?
What is the rough upstream that needs to be reserved for 1 player? Around 512kbps correct? (0.5MB)
Thanks!

It depends on the server you're playing on, but an 0.5mb connection seems fairly sufficient to play without much lag, I have a 1mbps connection (or something really bad) and I don't lag too badly.

1) Default SA-MP server spends about 64-128 MB of RAM. Yes, It's enough.
2)1 GB is enough, it would run perfectly.
And you haven't said, what's your upload speed connection?

Hey, thanks.
The connection part is why I ask. I'm thinking on building a home server, and having a seperate custom connection connected to the box. (I found one with a 50MB upstream.)
So if a Pentium 4 is good enough to run 2 servers, with 200 players in total, then I say its safe to host 4 game servers on a E8400 (3.0Ghz) box.
I asked this question elsewhere, but havn't really gotten a good awnser. How much upstream would 200 players playing constently for 1 month need? Would a 50MB connection be enough? Or is it an overkill? How many players can be hosted on a 50MB connection? Also, how much bandwidth would 200 players use up in a months time? Around 2TB's probbally?
Thanks!

I don't think you understood the question. But thanks anyway.

It all depends on your gamemode, you could run 500 players with LVDM on a Pentium 4 but it would die when running an horribly scripted gamemode such as the Godfather.

SAMP uses roughly 4mbps / 100 players
4mbps/8 = 0.5MB(500kb)
500kb*60*60*24*30 = 1,296,000,000 kb * 2 = 2,592,000,000 kb / mo
~2.4tb / mo
Thats how much you'd need for 200 players IF the server has 200 players online 24/7

My bad. I saw a thread with a similar context, though about playing.

May I ask, why would you want to start off with 200 player slots?

I don't see why you need to start off with 200 player slots. If your server is a success then you should upgrade your player slots, but look at most internet servers, 0/100, 0/500, 0/200. I usually don't go on servers like that because most likely the owner is a beginner, owners should know their playerbase, and should have an appropriate slot base.
