The Mac was the first GUI OS and Billie created after Stevie a GUI OS.

Apple stole their GUI idea from the Xerox PARC institute

Apple didn't help M$ with windows. Not intentionally anyways. I believe the story is that M$ showed Apple what they were working on, which looked nothing like Mac's OS, Apple provided some material support (free macs) and when M$'s new OS was released...it suddenly looked very different and had a new name ("windows").

M$ helped Apple financially by giving Apple a loan, in return for Apple promoting Office for Mac

Well being a bit of a nerd I've watched Triumph of the Nerds, which is basically how it went down as told by Bill, Steve and all others involved. However it was in class and I wasn't paying much attention to alot of it but from what I gathered...

Xerox originally had the GUI idea which Apple then stole and started developing, then Bill Gates and Microsoft decided to pretend that they wanted to work with Apple to take down IBM by taking advantage of Steve's fear of IBM rising against Apple.

However Bill also went behind Steve's back and started development of Windows, and after all of the experience he's seen behind the Apple doors, this made it a whole lot easier, they basically made Windows, an improved GUI over Apple's GUI (Can't remember if this one was called MAC), and then eventually it went on to Microsoft paying them off to stop Apple sueing them for stealing work.

Then Steve Jobs was fired for a few years before being hired again because apparently he was always harrassing Apple employee's. Later on however he was employed by Apple again.

Now Microsoft owns a part of Apple. And Apple really isn't much in the computer industry, their money comes from Multimedia stuff like iPod, iTunes and now even phones. They still work a little on their computer world but it's a very small part of their company now.

That's what I gained from watching Triumph of the Nerds anyway

Obviously there's more to it but I just made a quickie of what happened
