Hi,

I'm looking for a decent high- end laptop. Since I'm about to follow a IT study I want to get rid of my old laptop. Unfortunately my knowledge about the latest hardware is zero. Due the fact that I have the same laptop for ages I don't know which hardware is decent and which aren't decent.

I use the laptop mainly to develop so it is obvious that the laptop needs a good keyboard (prefered with backlit). Besides my study, I use the laptop to play the latest games, prefered on medium settings.. (Grand Theft Auto V | Saints Row IV | FIFA etc.). I also care about the design, whatsoever, that is a matter of taste. The budget range is Ђ0 - Ђ1.000

• SDD & HDD (only HDD is a bottleneck for decent hardware)
• Must be able to run latest games, prefered on medium settings.
• Must be able to run software as Photoshop properly.

I do NOT use the laptop for video editing.

I did a little re-search by myself and I find the Lenovo Y500 and the Samsung Series 9 come close to my requirements and budget. Can anyone recommend me a decent laptop with my requirements and within my budget range?

I recently bought a laptop (I'm studying IT aswel). After a bit of searching, I ended up purchasing this:

They are completely customizable, so you can go as cheap (starting from Ђ649) or as expensive as you want. They are high-end and completely capable of doing what you want. I will use it for programming/webdesign/photoshop and gaming myself.

The best part about Sony Vaio is, they are really, really beatiful laptops. The design is comparable with the Apple macbook. Also the keyboard is the best I've ever seen.

Thanks a lot, I need to use the laptop for the same stuff you do. (programming | webdesign | photoshop | gaming). I believe that programming and photoshop are running perfectly. How do you expierence gaming? I also ended up at Sony Vaio (Pro) but the Fit seems also okay. What kind of setup you took?

If you got stuck between Sony Vaio Pro and Sony Vaio Fit, I would recommend you to go for Fit as it used Nvedia unlike Pro, which uses Intel graphics. Nvedia is most preferred for gaming that's why I said.

It still needs to arrive, I literally ordered it about a week ago I can't give you my personal experience but a friend in my class has the Vaio Fit 14 and he is extremely happy with it. Gaming will work fine depending on your setup (I would suggest atleast Intel i5 with 4GB RAM). Lower will work too but not on the highest settings.

If you're a student i'd get a business series laptop. They tend to be more durable. The only issue with laptops is if you do not go with a higher end gaming laptop graphics tend to suck. I also would go with asus they really are a great brand.

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 735M 1 GB

This is a rebrand from one of their elder gpu's, and as such, granted that you wish to play newer games at medium to high settings, I guarantee you will find it insufficient.

As someone has already suggested earlier, you're looking for something along the GT 645M (http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.81417.0.html) or the GT 650M (http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.71887.0.html)

I personally use the GT 645M gpu, along with an Intel Quad Core I7-3632QM processor, and 8gb of ddr3 memory. This rig has never let me down, and handles games such as Battlefield 3 with medium settings fluently.
