Dynamic IP? IP can't change as long as the router is on. In addition it's quite easy to get a dyndns (no-ip etc.) or a hostname you manually change on those occasions when the IP changes.
Computer overheating? Rare but could happen. On a $3 VPS you'd end up paying for overheating anyway. They can't offer full coverage with that money.
If hosting home would cost more than hiring a VPS, how would the hosting companies make profit? The place they host their things is essentially no different than hosting the same things at home. It's a building, the thing that makes it a home is that someone lives there, servers or not.
