I'd go for a newer Core2Quad, or overclock a Core2Duo past 3.0GHZ (I have an OC'd C2D on my desktop and it works great, most games are single threaded anyways so there's no point in buying a 6 core processor really). |
1st gen i7 920-990 = s1366
2nd gen i5/i7 = s1155
But yeah, you should go for a core 2 quad. It won't bottleneck as fast as you start upgrading your other components.
