Is it worth creating a server in 2017?

Hey, so, i'm in this crossroads between choosing SA-MP and MTA:SA, because I wanna know which one I should learn to create my server on. And i'm just wondering if it's worth creating servers in 2017? Do you have any experience of new servers? Let me know, thanks!

If you have an actual creative idea then perhaps, yes. But if you're just planning another run-of-the-mill roleplay server then don't bother. Also keep in mind that it took me years to fully understand the concepts of this game and this mod. If you have no experience then setting up a server with an actual unique gamemode will be hard regardless which mod you choose.

If you will have the time, to manage your server and create a team around you, then yes, but it will take you months and years on becoming succesful.
Also you need to be good on scripting to make your server better and better but if you don't know scripting then it's just time wasted for you.

Well yea, I was thinking it'd take around 1/2 to 1 year to develop. I know programming but i'm still new to the PAWNO environment, I have a simple turf war system going on and was going to further develop a MySQL login system, but this is where my anxiety popped in and told me not to, since, I dont know if I should use SA-MP or MTA:SA.

I was not thinking of directly copy another server, I was thinking of taking fundamentals of one of my favourite freeroam servers and enhance the experience. Hopefully i'll be able to do that though. But no, I wasn't thinking of using an existing gamemode.

I read somewhere that a "unique gamemode" isnt required to suceed in samp, you just need good execution, the actual idea / uniqueness behind it doesn't really matter alot in my, and alot of other people's opinions.

You just need some Pawno skills and some $$$.
The skills for developing a gamemode "Unique" bcz if you copy a gamemode the player will not come to your server and they will go to the original server.
$$$ to get a hosted tab, a host, etc...

So the definition of a unique server is not using existing gamemodes?

Then I guess i'm on the right path

You must create a unique gamemode bcz if you stole someone gamemode or copy. the players will go to the original server not still in your server

Yea well that's pretty obvious isnt it?

This is why I want to create my own gamemode from scratch. But this wasn't my original question

Mostly copy servers get a lot of players (if they're on hosted)

+ you can't have a complete unique gamemkde now a days.
