Demand for a new unique roleplay server?
#1

Hello All,

It has been quite some time since I've visited the SAMP forums. The last live roleplay server I played on was Platinum RP (A Godfather edit).

Shortly after Platinum shut down, I began scripting my own roleplay server from scratch. However, after getting to 5000 lines of code, including a housing, vehicle, job, telephone, and banking system, I decided that I would move on from SAMP.

A few days ago, my interest in SAMP has been sparked once again, and I'm interested in creating a completely new RP script. But before doing so, I was wondering if there is a demand for a new RP server in the community.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts and concerns, if any, regarding the introduction of a new RP server into the SAMP community. From what I've read in the past hour, there seems to be a ton of servers running on a few leaked scripts, is this true?

Feel free to ask me questions if there's something that isn't clear, or if you'd like to know more about my general RP script concept.

Thank you for your time,
Crynux

It is true, just open your SAMP client and check it yourself

I actually completely forgot about being able to view the 'Mode' of a server... It's been a while. Thanks for the reminder; I took a quick look, and there does in fact seem to be a lot of duplicate modes out there.

Out of curiosity... I've always wondered 'how' scripts get leaked. I know, obviously, someone has to upload the script to a website somewhere, but who, in most cases, does the uploading? Is it more an issue of untrustworthy admins/scripters, or are there some cases of the actual hosts releasing a gamemode for unknown reasons... although I imagine that's quite illegal.

Thanks for the input,

A good rule of thumb is to never include the source of your work whenever you publish it. This applies to everything, not just SA-MP. I know a bunch of server owners whose scripts got leaked because they gave the entire .pwn to their scripter. Some even let their devs access the server files. A mix of wrong decisions and untrustworthy people, I guess.

I generally try to keep as much as possible to myself. I never understood how people could put so much work into something, and then freely give access to it. Yes, I guess there's the point to having trust in people every now and then, but in all honsety, you can never be sure who's out to get you.

Anyways, enough about that...

Another quesiton I have... when Platinum RP closed down, a few of the people I knew on there and myself got together a few times to create our own server. Unfortunatley, it didn't always work out... due to planning problems. Nonetheless, we were able to play and have a great time creating a server for ourselves and playing just for the fun of it.

If I wanted to start up a new RP server, where would I go to find people to create a community with? I don't necessarily need developers, as I can develop the gamemode alone, I just need people to help with testing, design thoughts, etc. Eventually, once trusted, said people can gain administrative privileges on the live server.

The reason I ask is because previously I simply developed with people I knew from previous servers, however now, I know noone who plays SAMP anymore.

As for ideas for the gamemode, there is no shortage, but input is welcome.

Thanks again,

Well, what I suggest is two solutions, either you go play some servers and make up some friendships with some professional people, and try to offer them what you are offering. Solution n2:- Try to post here:- https://sampforum.blast.hk/showthread.php?tid=447813

Good luck with your server, remember, to ignore the people with crappy English, most people expect professionalism from a server.

Well, there's a roleplay server based off a school, you can see it on my signature.

I don't think that there is a demand for yet another roleplay server at all, regardless of whether it is a "unique" script or not. Everyone says that they're sick of all the copies so they're going to make a new one that will revolutionise roleplay and blah blah blah, but we've been hearing this for years and it has never happened, so I'll believe it when I see it!

RP needs a new premise -- a new setting of time, a different background. Regular roleplay servers set in current day Los Santos etc etc., is wearing thin.

I'm currently working on a roleplay server set in the 1950s and in Chicago (using San Fierro for that), using contemporary vehicles and all. Still a lot of work to be done but I think it'll be fun.
