I've done quite a bit of work experience over the years including in IT. Some of it was paid and some of it was unpaid. The problem with this generation is it's really competitive for jobs and you need the work experience to be even considered for most positions. In my area, it's even quite competitive getting the unpaid work like what you've stated in the original post.

It would definitely be worth while (especially for younger kids) to get involved in something like this. However, between 16-20, you're not really going to get people that are wanting to do that. It's not until about 20-25 where they start realising that they really need experience.

These days a fancy degree just really doesn't cut it.
