Starting a server. -
SilencedPistol - 10.06.2013
Okay, so by now I'm an intermediate scripter. I've worked and worked through a few sleepless nights (it sounds sad, I know lol) to come to terms with many functions, forwards, callbacks and saving methods and what not. I started editing a script called United Roleplay by Carrot. I've edited it a bit by doing things such as removing unfinished systems and changing basic things. I'm going to keep on editing it for a while to a near unrecogniseable level, although I have had some contact with Carrot who so far has allowed me to do these things which I am greatful for.
So, what I want to know is this: what's the key to starting a server? What do you need? What do you advise? What are your ideas? How do I get a host and how does using a host work? Stuff like that.
NOTE: For a while, I dont have much intention of starting a server, I just wanted to know so that if I happened to do it in a year or so for a project or for class that I'll be prepared and ready. Please post, because all these will help.
Many thanks guys.

Starting a server;
- Ensure you know what you are doing, you don't want to start something you know nothing about!
What do you need;
- Script, Normally unique ones get the players
- Good name, Using a name like [REFUNDING ADMEN] etc puts off many players.
- A good host, Someone who can host your server and give you support if you go down.
Advise;
- Just get to know the script and everything in it if you are using an edit, ensure that when you do get players you carry out everything, for example unbanning someone after 1 day on a 5 day ban etc.. Just be truthful etc.
- Hash Passwords, Self explanatory, most scripts do this anyway..
Ideas;
- Use your players opinions on what to add
Host;
- You upload your files onto a host;
List here
- They usually deal with the most of the running etc, meaning you just pay and it pretty much will run without a hitch.
Other Notes;
- Hosted tab, this can be good attracting players as there is only a few hosted tab listings.
- Don't use NGG edit if you are going to do it, This is bad..
- Enjoy it, If you ever start to feel bored, try not to give up, it can be fun & annoying, just persevere.
Hope this helps.

So basically, if I have a host, I dont understand how I can restart the server.
ATM, I have a server.exe which is used to run on my own host. How do I start/restart the server? Will I still have to run it on a server.exe or what?
Explain that to me please. I may seem nooby, but I gotta know.

With server hosts there is usually a web control panel that lets you restart / control your server, view statistics, console, install plugins, etc.

Can somebody tell me how to start up things?
Such as, paying to get the forum and hosting for it and such. I can do it, I just need to find my feet a little bit. Plus, what do you all recommend in terms of forum software?

the server can be very simple while its a tdm with 2 teams, the bases are close and it has some weapon menus to choose, capture zones, thats enough for these days players who are in samp, simple and the objective is clear
