Windows issues - thefatshizms - 15.05.2013

Hello, since today I've been having some issues with windows.. it crashed with a bluescreen then didn't let me login till i rebooted some time later and now some programs are not working. Tried to system restore to yesterday it then said "This program has stopped responding" I then see if its a .dll issue by going into cmd prompt and putting in "sfc /scannow" it then goes to 30% and then says cannot perform this action. I have scanned for viruses (avg) and none were found.. What do you suggest I do ?

EDIT: did the sfc scan again and it said it found corrupt files but was unable to fix them..

Re: Windows issues - Red_Dragon. - 15.05.2013

This happened to me before and I tried everything you tried, but no use, so I just gave up and installed a new copy of windows.

Re: Windows issues - Jstylezzz - 15.05.2013

You can do the above, or try ccleaner. Maybe a corrupt register? ccleaner cleans unused stuff, and has a register repair option, or something. I had the exact same thing you have, and someone suggested using that program. It did the trick for me.

Good luck!

Re: Windows issues - Vince - 15.05.2013

If the file check doesn't work then the best you can do is a fresh install. I had a PC with a similar problem in the shop last week with random blue screens and the sfc unable to repair. In the end I reinstalled that one too.

What you might try still is booting from the OS DVD. If you don't have one then you can download an ISO copy (legally, since it still requires a key to activate) somewhere on DigitalRiver (Microsoft's software distribution platform). Use Microsoft's USB preparation tool or just burn the image to a DVD.

Boot from the USB/DVD. At the welcome screen select language and keyboard settings. Click Next. DON'T CLICK 'Install Now'! In the left bottom corner there should be an option "Repair My PC" or something along those lines. If I remember correctly there should be an option to automatically detect problems.

Re: Windows issues - thefatshizms - 15.05.2013

I don't have the windows (or the key) as all the building the pc and installing the os was at my granddad's and he owned the os. I've tried system restore which is now working and restoring to yesterdays backup. If this doesn't work, I'll try ccleaner then I'll have to wait a few weeks to get another os from my granddad.

You can view your key in the properties on "Computer"
But then u would need a win installation.

But check if any unnecessary processes are running, do a safe boot see if the problem is the same!
Also change the windows boot options to just load Windows's .dlls/processes

Re: Windows issues - thefatshizms - 18.05.2013

Hello, I've managed to fix the problem, it was due to the memory..

Anyway, I've gotten a new problem.. it is "Page fault in un paged area"

Any suggestions ?

Re: Windows issues - Pingperfect - 18.05.2013

Usually page faults are caused by the following

Seriously dodgy software on your pc (Try re-installing your ATI Drivers)
Faulty Ram
Fault HDD

I would recommend re-installing windows (once you have re-installed your ATI Drivers) and seeing if you get the errors again, if you do you know you have a hardware fault.

Re: Windows issues - thefatshizms - 18.05.2013

Now programs like skype won't start

I doubt its a fault HDD as this one has been used in another pc and worked fine for ages.

I've tried re-installing my drivers but with no luck I haven't had any problems (apart from programs not starting) after changing the ram frequency (It was on auto and I've now set it to the correct amount) so hopefully I don't bluescreen again and maybe just have to re-install the programs

Re: Windows issues - IceCube! - 18.05.2013

Well I've provided you with the solutons for both, I never knew you've made this though... When we altered the 'RAM' speed setting in the BIOS to what you believe to be the actual speed as your Mbo was gettng it wrong you may nw be locking off RAM, is all your RAM the same speed?

How do I check this?

Re: Windows issues - IceCube! - 18.05.2013

Well you could see how much RAM you computer has detected in Task manager, alternatively check the box. If you've locked off RAM your programs may not have enough RAM to launch, this seems unlikely but some programs quit the launching phase if the RAM is full.

This forum requires that you wait 120 seconds between posts. Please try again in 44 seconds. - This is very annoying and why its better to discuss it with me in Skype -.-

Re: Windows issues - thefatshizms - 18.05.2013

Because I can't open skype and it's hard to speak on phone. I looked on the box and it said 1600 so thats what I set it to..

On task manager it says 2.84gb is being used and free is 1756

Windows has detected 8gb ram 7.45gb usable

Then the RAM issue was resolved and it isn't a spiraling problem from the alterations. I'm going to re-read the thread and likely update the post so I can recall what we have gone through.

Cant you run a Repair Install? It will most likely solve your issue, you can create a repair disc in the Control Panel if you left your somewhere.

BackUp and Restore > Create System Repair Disc

If they are the same as in both SATA yes, if you do not wish to add the 2nd Hard Drive we can still make a Partition if needed. As I doubt you have the older connecter on your mother board.

Double Post Sorry </3

Re: Windows issues - Robert_Crawford - 19.05.2013

Don't be hardhearted that SFC failed (it often does :P). What OS are you Running Ex: (Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit). What you can do is grab a copy of that CD file (LEGALLY!) and do what is similar with Mac as in an archive install. Please look here for more detailed instructions.
