Pff, the server and client are two different things.

Tell him to download the new server files:

Windows --> http://files.sa-mp.com/samp02Xserver.win32.zip
Linux --> http://files.sa-mp.com/samp02Xsvr.tar.gz

If he's hosting it at home, most likely he will have to choose the windows version.

Also if he doesn't want to lose his scripts, he should copy and paste each one he wants to keep in their folders (filterscripts, gamemodes, etc...) into the new server version's folder.
