So how much ram is required for lets say around 150 players?
Is a cheap vps good enough to handle a player base like that? will it cause lag if there is too much players?

and will openvs VPS's work? or KVM

how much bandwidth would be required for that kind of playerbase

The needed ram per player depends on your game mode

For 150 player with a light game mode you will need around 512 for the mid one you will need 1 GB +

OpenVZ is kinda *The gay hosting virtualization* because its sharing resources with the other users(VPS Owners) who are hosted with you on the Dedicated Server (Node), So ofc go for KVM.

BW will also depend on your script but all of samp scripts will be fine with 400 GB +

But also you need a ddos protection because once you reac around 30 players (you competitors will do a lot of attempts to get you down)

So you will need a provider who sells VPSEs from OVH Game dedicated servers(its have a special ddos protection for game servers and a pretty strong one for SAMP https://www.ovh.com/us/dedicated-servers/game/).
I would recommend https://rocketrix.com/ used them before and they are pretty awesome.

If you have more questions feel free to ask and good luck with your server.

Sorry but OpenVZ is not gay, if you're going to have a 512MB KVM VPS then you're going to waste, roughly, 200MB into the kernel, while in OpenVZ, the amount of wasted RAM will be nearly 20MB if not lower. Plus, some people prefer OpenVZ than KVM, it just depends on the usage, but SA-MP never needs a dedicated server or KVM.

Not nearly enough. You need at least two terabytes if not more. Assuming that each player consumes 40 kilobits (5 kilobytes) per second.

150 * 40 = 6000 kb/second
6000 * 60 = 360,000 kb/minute
360,000 * 60 = 21,600,000 kb/hour
21,600,000 * 24 = 518,400,000 kb/day
518,400,000 * 31 = 16,070,400,000 kb/month

16,070,400,000 kilobits = 2.0088 terabytes.
