#1

Hello Guys.

I am looking o buy a Host/ VPS for my Roleplay Script. Now i want to ask you guys something because you have mor experience then me in hosting. so please help me.

Questions:

1> a VPS will be good or a Gameserver Host?

2> If VPS, which VPS should i buy? i have known about OVH and other i found was Fusion Servers.

3>Which VPS plan would be better for me to start of. is 512 MB of RAM enough with 5GB SSD and OpenVZ Panel?

4>If GameServer, which do you propose that is good? Fusion Servers recently removed their GameServers services. so is there any other good provider?

5>I dont need a Hosted Tab right now. now, what will be my budget(minimum) to start a VPS/Gameserver. i have a domain already.

6>Is there any way in which i can demo VPS / Gameserver for like how they work and all? Please suggest me a Website which lets me Demo how a VPS and a Gameserver works for atleast 1 day??

Please Help me guys ASAP.

Thank you.

1. Yes, absolutely, a VPS is your best bet. You'll be able to choose how many player slots you have for a fraction of the price it would cost via a hosting service.

2. OVH is great, Linodes are nice too.

3. 512 MB of RAM in theory will be enough for most scripts, but 1GB would be pretty safe if it's within your budget, especially if you wish to run a website for your server on that VPS. 5GB of storage is pushing it, i mean, in reality as far as a samp server is concerned, odds are you won't be using many gigs of storage, but I'd opt in for around 20 gigs to give you room for anything else you want to do. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what OpenVZ is or what it is used for. I assume it's a control panel to help you navigate your VPS. I don't see any harm in it, but I'd try and learn how to use BASH.

4. Don't use a gameserver service. It's overall a massively overpriced way of doing things. You can do SO much more with a VPS.

5. The cheapest Linode is 5 dollars I believe. I think OVH has one for 3.5 dollars. (These prices are US Dollars FYI). This is much cheaper than most GameServer hosts will be for the capability you'll be getting.

6. I think Amazon Web Services (AWS) has a trial of their services which allows you to deploy VPS instances with like 200 dollars of credit. I would suggest that you simply up the 5 dollars it'll cost you to get a VPS from OVH or Linode and give it a try.

Edit: Linode currently has a promotional code which gives you 20 dollars of free credit upon signup.
Code:
bootstrapped2017
As far as I know this still works, so once you make your initial 5 dollar deposit, you'll have 25 in total balance. That should last you a few months at least if you're only running one VPS.

(Not sponsored by Linode, just a helpful guy who likes their service!)

OpenVZ is basically running on a shared kernel, KVM(the other option) is a VPS without a kernel which you have to setup yourself. Speeds are said that OpenVZ is a little faster anyway. OpenVZ offers the amount of RAM it's advertised for, whereas KVM you could be getting a little less.

I'd say stick with OpenVZ, in my experience using them, there's no issue with it at all, and you won't notice a difference from any other service. I've never used KVM, just research I've done in the past about the two.

If you're going to go for fusion servers I'd do VPS-2 personally. However I'm still going to recommend you use Linode as you'll get 20 dollars worth of credit with the above code I listed + the 5 you'll pay initially.

If your server is running on the vps, you can shutdown your laptop without hesitation-the server will keep running and is in no way relied on your pc. If you're going for absolute minimal, try amazon aws free tier which is free for 12 months.
P.S-I made a video about it...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FFMNDdVE6w

You can try SpetsnazHost's VPS servers or Game Servers, I've tried them and they're just awesome, I would recommend getting a VPS with at least 2 GB ram (doesn't matter if it's OpenVZ or KVM) considering that you might need to install LAMP stack (MySQL/MariaDB, Apache & PHP)

For the VPS: https://spetsnazhost.com/cart.php?gid=2 (Economy plan)
For the SA-MP server hosting: https://spetsnazhost.com/cart.php?gid=2

and is there any chance to get their Demo for like a day or 2?

Thank you

Because game servers have 1 purpose which is to host a specified game server (example SAMP) while a decent VPS can be used to host multiple game servers, web server, mysql server.

For the slots, you get 10 slots for free, if you want more, you pay extra money, like, a SA-MP server with 50 slots will cost: ~$6, if you upgrade the slots, the price will increase.

Yes, their VPS plans is reliable, I bought dedicated servers from them and they're perfect.
