Advanced Display Settings
#1

Well I have two monitors, my old one and a TV I bought yesterday. The TV has a 1920x1080 resolution.

I want to get into GTA's settings and change from 1024x768, but everytime I click on "Advanced" the game crashes. It goes smoothly if I start the game on the other monitor however, I can get right into the advanced section with no problem. It only happen on the TV.

How do I fix this? Have any of you experienced this?

I've tried resetting gta_set, so don't suggest that.

Don't use GTA SAs settings... When you start the SAMP connection, you'll have a dropdown for the resolution. If you set the TV to primary, or dropdown the top list to the other card listing (It's listing displays) you'll then be able to select 1920x1080 in the bottom list.

And you'd better not be using the VGA cable on your TV like a noob... You'd better have that running on an HDMI cable.

There isn't a crash log. It's not a SA-MP crash, it's a GTA:SA crash. It just closes instantly, no warning or output.

I have the drop down set to the correct resolution, but that doesn't change the GUI. It only set's the window resolution.

Lol, I don't think the TV even have a VGA port.

Is it maybe because 1920x1080 isn't supported? I'll try 1280x800 later.

According to a thread I was just reading on gtaforum, there are only 23 accepted resolution settings

GUI?

Are you meaning the actual TVs desktop res? Is it currently in 1080p?

Yea, that's why I said not to run GTA SA, and use SAMP. The resolutions are limited in singleplayer.

No, no no....

Back to the beginning. My desktop resolution is set to 1920x1080. Yes, it is 1080p.

When starting SA-MP I select my second monitor and scroll all the way down to 1920x1080. That set's GTA's IG resolution. That is not the GUI, but the game... like the character stretching and shit.

To set the resolution of the GTA GUI you must be able to access the Advanced settings in the Display settings. However, when I'm in the display settings and I click the Advanced part it instantly closes the game process. I'm assuming this crash is because GTA:SA only supports the following 22 resolutions (which can be set on an address that apparently saves automatically to gta_sa.set):
Quote:

1 -640x480x16
2 -720x576x16
3 -800x600x16
4 -960x600x16
5 -1024x768x16
6 -1152x864x16
7 -1280x768x16
8 -1280x800x16
9 -1280x960x16
10 -1280x1024x16
11 -1600x1200x16
12 -640x480x32
13 -720x576x32
14 -800x600x32
15 -960x600x32
16 -1024x768x32
17 -1152x864x32
18 -1280x768x32
19 -1280x800x32
20 -1280x960x32
21 -1280x1024x32
22 -1600x1200x32

Notice, my resolution, 1920x1080 is NOT on there.

Also, I might try this trainer to get my resolution working: http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=857
If that doesn't work I'll try 1280x800 in the SA-MP monitor selection.

Ok, the trainer didn't work.

But... setting the resolution to 1280x800 in the SA-MP monitor selection allowed me to get into the advanced settings! I changed it to 1920x800 (which IS supported by the way, that list above is WRONG) and everything is beautiful!

Little etchy because my graphics card is ass, but still awesome!

16:9 resolutions are now selectable (like in 1.01)
Fixed a crash when entering advanced display options on a dual monitor machine after: starting game on primary monitor in maximum resolution, exiting, starting again in maximum resolution on secondary monitor. Secondary monitor maximum resolution had to be greater than maximum resolution of primary monitor.

// LE: Erm... you said you managed to set the resolution to 1920x800, not 1920x1080. That's why I thought you were still looking for a solution.
