Windows is still being used by most companies as a domain controller (Active Directory) for Linux servers. That's the only thing that Windows is good at.

I was thinking more about server setup kind of. VMWare et cetera, not using Window servers or Linux servers. And I'm not looking for something to get on my resume haha Just something to do for fun, for practice and to get some experience how it works. I do go to school, but not related to IT, network etc. I'm thinking about doing that after I'm done in high school.

There's much more to VMWare than you might think though. In VMWare environments, you're going to have your servers running ESXi on more or less hardware level, you're gonna have to know your way around VMWare Workstation which is not just herpaderp virtual machines but also manages all network adapters and you're gonna be super confused about how the hell you split a RAID config on your dedi over several virtual servers.

You're not going to want to be working at a hosting company when you don't know how to bridge connections in VMWare lol.

Windows Server is almost exclusively used internally in large corporations. I would only ever consider Windows Server if I needed Active Directory. All other services are available for Linux in one way or another. These are often free and might even do a better job than the paid Windows Equivalent.
