Players timing out randomly
#1

Hello,

I have this problem since I reopened my server, I guess that this is a 0.3.7 problem, I'm not sure. In earlier SA:MP version I didn't have these problems. I am not really sure if this should go to "Bug Reports" .

Even when just walking around (so they aren't in any job, minigame or other things), some players, randomly, are getting time outs (the server appears as it is restarting). I don't receive any information in the server log (for example the log messages when a player exceeds the acks limit), also, just in case I increased ackslimit and messageholelimit from 3000 to 5000 and it still occurs. There are sometimes a bunch of players that timeouts and sometimes it happens just to a random player.

Any of you guys also encountered this ? If yes, how did you solve that ? Also, I use the fixes include (I suspect that it can cause some problems, maybe ?). Any ideas about what could happen ? I don't have any idea about what should I check, as it is a pretty complex gamemode with lots of features.

EDIT: See this new post for more informations: http://forum.sa-mp.com/showthread.ph...85#post3688085 .

It can be alot of things, people can timeout, if your firewall is blocking. They can also timeout because their internet is blocking

Despite the fact that this doesn't happen to me nor to others in general, see if the issue is coming from the host or the gamemode and/or its external components.

I talked with my host, they monitored the server, but they didn't see anything bad, so the firewall is ok. It isn't a problem with user's firewall/internet because it happens even to me sometimes and to many others.

Look into the gamemode and its relations as in, use a different gamemode and see if the issue persists; otherwise, change hosts as that would most likely be the source of the problem.

Don't assume it is the SA-MP server, you may be over-estimating the power of your host who themselves may be dropping the connections without even knowing it.

Connection overload would rather cause equal amounts of lag for every player. But I havent heard of a hoster that drops (bans) UDP communication with certain clients if there is too much general traffic

Now I excluded the host's firewall and the host in generally, as it is a really really good one and they confirmed that it isn't a problem on their part. They are also hosting the biggest romanian server without problems. There are almost 0% chances to be a problem of theirs.

Now I know that it is something in my gamemode, but I asked if somebody had the same problem and found the problem, and I also said that I use fixes (with many ones disabled, I saw that there could be problems with various fixes from it). For sure it isn't happening in other gamemodes. The problem is that I can't see any similarity between timeouts.

My guess is that IPs could be banned temporary by the server (and I really don't know why, this is why I am thinking of fixes include), but I disabled the silent kick from fixes so it's pretty weird. I think I will add debugs everywhere I deal with kicking, banning and also RCON banning the IPs, I can't think of any other solution to detect the cause.

So, anyone had problems like this from the fixes include ? I don't suspect any other include or other things.

I've disabled 10 or so 'fixes' which actually made things worse and wrote my own fixes. Fixes is known to have issues. Apparently 'fixes2' (the plugin version of fixes) has issues too. Are you running that?

No split packets warnings this time. (they appear rarely anyway)

Sorry for bumping this, but I think it's really important.

Does it happen with a different script? Have you tried using another host? The host itself may be randomly dropping connections.

Have you tried hosting your server on a different provider? It may not be the problem but it's worth a shot.
If you know for sure that it isn't your script, then it has to be your host.

It isn't from the script, because everything which could timeout players (BlockIpAddress, Ban(Ex), etc.) isn't bugged, I checked. It isn't from the script and as I said it also happened to Tamer. I don't know about other servers because I didn't talk to anyone else, but Tamer told me that he talked to a beta-tester and he told him that the SA:MP team knows about this, but they can't find the tool, as I mentioned earlier.

As I said in a previous post, the guy(s) from the host checked if it is dropping connections, but couldn't see any problem in logs. As I said, it is the biggest host from Romania, they host 100-200 SA:MP servers, so there couldn't be a problem like that.

Ok, but have you TRIED another script whilst keeping everything else the same? Or have you TRIED disabling certain FS's? Or have you TRIED a different host, whether it was just a temporary one or your home PC?

So far it looks like you're just assuming things are true... Besides you contacting the guy.

I just don't see anything that would cause this from what you've given us.

I didn't, because it isn't happening at a specific time in a day, or at a certain player count, or from a certain callback/command (I also debugged all callbacks and I found nothing similar in all ). It could take way too much with another script to decide that I still receive it or not. Nobody can reproduce it. It happens way too random. Sometimes it happened really often (especially when it was in Hosted Tab [way more players]) and sometimes doesn't happen at all, even if there are pretty much players.

I use only one FS: the one with the objects.

I said a few times already why I don't use another host. These guys really know what they are doing. I told them to check the logs and tell me if there is anything suspect, but they didn't find anything wrong !

In my home PC I don't have how to test it, because that would mean to invite at least 10 players on it and stay pretty much hours on it. When I test alone things on my PC everything is alright, without any timeouts.

That's the point ! There isn't anything bad from my side. I debugged the sh*t out of my server and there isn't anything bad. It all started happen when my server got more popular, because I took a place in hosted tab (now I'm not in it anymore).

out of 20 players, these 6 got a timeout ("Server is restarting") at the same time. After he reconnected, this is what a player PMed me:

EDIT after ~40 minutes: This happened now:

So, we are on hosted tab again (since yesterday), I think this is the first time it happens in this hosted tab session:
Code:
[11/06/2016 19:29:44] [part] Facu has left the server (24:0)

They weren't close to eachother.

We had ~30 players.

Sorry for bumping this over and over again, but I think this is critical and that I should receive some more official response about this problem. It is really affecting my players. Is there any exploit I should know about ?

Before saying anything, make sure that you read all my previous posts.

I'm getting full of this bull*** . And also of the fact that SA:MP team is actually never responding there. I don't know what they are trying to achieve with their inactivity and lack of support.

From ~35 players to ~21 !! SA:MP TEAM, can you give an official response once in your life ? This is really messing up my server and I have nothing to do with it. I bought Hosted Tab from you and we shouldn't have such problems !

I never saw a lack of support like this from any other "official guys". This deserves an official response !

Do you want this mod to die ? Because this is how you make a mod to die. I dedicated 7 years to this old mod and in the last 1-2 years it really got me annoyed as h*ll because of all exploits ! We got bugs since the start which are never going to be fixed, but now we even have huge exploits which you simply can't fix and don't even give official response. You know that "Internet List bug" ? You disabled it because some guys can break your samp.exe list and you can't fix it or you don't want to fix it ! We never got an official response about that too ! All we want is Kalcor, or at least one beta tester, to give us a detailed response like: "We know about this exploit/bug. We are trying to fix it but we can't find the tool which is abusing it." .

I'm sorry because I talk to you, SA:MP team, like this, but all this lack of support totally annoys us. You should change your mentality and bug/exploit handling. If a mod has success, and you think that it is dying, you shouldn't stop developing and support. As far as it is alive and generating money for you, you should continue your work.

---------------------

Anyway, a new idea: As far as I know, the SA:MP team is aware of this bug. Did you ever try to track the last packets received by the timeout'ed player from other players and find weird values from it ? (I'm not sure if this is possible, as I don't really know SA:MP's networking). I would do this by myself, but I think it is pretty hard and I don't have time to try to do it. As far as I know, before we timeout, no player is like "spam-streamed" to all of us. I never thought that someone could timeout us like that without even being streamed.

Keep this SF mod running in background so you will be able to check what packets and RPCs you had received before you lost the connection.

If that mod won't run on 0.3.7 then you'll have to recompile it and link it against the latest SF API library.
