Hi. I am going to install Windows 10 and need some advice and things from people who have already installed the update:
- What kind of backups and files do I need to make sure to get prior to upgrading?
- How long can I expect it to take to actually install after being downloaded?

I just upgraded from Windows 8 a few minutes ago. Everything seems to be kept in the upgrade, although my antivirus and Origin did not start anymore. I was able to start Origin again by going to it's executable in the install folder, but ended up re-installing my antivirus.
I didn't back up anything, but it's always a good idea to back up your most important things (pictures, documents, savegames perhaps?).
My installation took around 5 - 10 minutes. I can't really say for sure since I wasn't paying attention at all, but it also depends on how fast your computer is I guess..
Good luck, I think you'll be happy once you're upgraded. I know I am!

This was on Windows 10 Technical Preview, of course they needed to collect data, to see how everything was working. I'm pretty sure you can turn all this off now, if it's even enabled.

For some reason the tool is downloading super slow. I'm trying to create a bootable USB but it takes ages.
EDIT: Apparently restarting it helped. Oh well ...

I think I'm just going to move the important things to my Dropbox before upgrading.

Downloading it now, still a little edgy about upgrading. Some of my files, such as a couple of films etc, are huge in size so I'm unable to move them to my Dropbox.
Do you think I'll be fine upgrading without backing them up?

I'm not getting windows 10. Seems like windows 8.1, which was dreadful, merged with windows 7 so I'd rather stick with windows 7.
