So, I just discovered that my host is running on CentOS 5 which means I cant use the latest MySQL plugins my gamemode is built on.. I get an error (libmysqlclient_r.so.16 not found).
So what now.. do I really have to go back to R5 plugin or start to rewriting my gamemode to use some other saving system?

Are you on a VPS? If so, you should have the option to switch to CentOS 6 (or any other Linux distro).

I say the easiest thing to do would be to grab all your stuff and switch host because going forward in the future you will need a host that is adaptable. Just my two cents.

As HugoWorm said, change host as this will not adapt for future references. I also suggest finding a VPS which will update every time you want it to so it is adaptable to your game.

I'd get off your host if they haven't even bothered to update their OS after this many years there's a lack of responsibility and I would bet more than anything there's a lack of security.
Anyways your host needs to install the mysql libs.
