Cloud vs VPS
#1

Hi...

I have one serious question. I had server+portal+forum with 100+ players hosted on VPS. Today i found another hosting with lower latency (its near my country) but its Cloud Hosting. So i want to know the difference between VPS and Cloud Server ?

The cloud server has 1GB Ram, 1vCPU and 100Mbit port.
Is that enough for samp server with 200-300 players, Portal+Forum, Database(MYSQL) and maybe 2-3 Counter-Strike servers ?

And what's better CLOUD or VPS for hosting SAMP, CS, WEB ?

Here's the hosting site: http://www.eunethosting.com/cloud-servers

"Cloud" or "Cloud computing" is an approach to computing. VPS is a virtual server created through any virtualization approach. Virtualization is broadly used in Cloud computing and this is one of the reasons for many to thing Cloud hosting as HA VPS or something like that.

A Cloud would refer to a Virtual Hosting (Shared Hosting) provided from a cloud computing generation infrastructure or Shared Cloud Hosting.

If you want to use it for your SA-MP Server, You'd better use VPS.

If you were me, and you need to choose

VPS with 70-80ms on the samp server or Cloud server with 20ms on the samp server... what would you choose... The price doesnt matter because they have same price

I wouldn't see any issues with that host. As for cloud vs vps there really isn't that big of a diffrence personally. Digital ocean is a "Cloud Vps" wich is the same thing.

Also that host has a tab called "What is cloud" http://www.eunethosting.com/cloud-ponuda-en that should explain it quite well.

Also make sure to check their service agreement/tos before buying to make sure your allowed to run game servers there.

Cloud is a marketing term, a proper cloud should have HA or some form of failover system!

http://iwstack.com/ is an example of a REAL cloud provider. I don't think SAN storage or internal networking is much use in SA-MP, just get a normal VPS.

Digital ocean isn't cloud hosting. They don't even have any failover.

I've done some more searching around and i see why it isn't true cloud hosting. Still kind of funny that they advertise everywhere that they are cloud hosting.

But still for the reliability and performance and how you can create, destroy, make backups, take images, and re-deploy vps's you can definatly consider them a cloud host. (My personal opinion, other people that may differ)

As for the failover i must just be on a good node i have had no issues with them in the past yet except for the other day when they had a network issue, other than that i have had solid uptime.

Guess i learned something today....
