If you make sure you're directing the air at the parts that need to be cooled they can be pretty effective. You might also want to check your laptop for any dust that might've gathered inside it.

I have the exact same one as one on the pic. I have Toshiba Satelite laptop and mine used to shut down after 20 mins aswell. When i bought the cooling it lasted for whole day.

I've got a similar one and it indeed has helped my laptop cool down, even during gaming.

I've found that even the good ones only reduce the temperature by around 2-3'c, you are luck better giving it a good clean inside, or a blast with the vacuum cleaner!

Yeah so my laptop got really hot the keyboard would get really hot, so I bought a cooling pad for Ј1, and it runs super cool, the keyboard is cold the whole laptop runs cooler.

I bought a cheap-ass cooler which is not even the correct size for my laptop, but it works great.
