Virus scan on GM release
#1

In my opinion, there should be a rule that requires the thread starter to post a virustotal scan on their newly released gamemodes and filterscripts. Unless its pastebin.
I've seen a few scripts that turns out to be infected turn up on sa-mp forums. Well thats just my opinion...

You know that a Pawn script is just a textfile, right? You can resort to the Pastebin version most of the time.

Yea I just edited my post that if you post a pastebin link instead of a .rar, then it shouldnt be required.

OR people can run antivirus on their own computer and actually use it to scan a downloaded file before they open it.

Since, you know....thats kinda what antivirus programs are for

It would be pointless, if the uploader was intentionally including a virus he could simply post a fake scan log, or scan it before it was infected.

The responsibility (as always) is with the downloader. Anything and everything you download from the internet should be checked by you, no matter where it is coming from.

They can easily fake the VirusTotal report.

The only virus that could be detected in the archive would be modified versions of SA-MP server files - which shouldn't be contained in the package anyway as there are new rules strictly prohibiting it.

Since there is a new GM release every 5-7 days, it's not really a big issue, although it would be quite nice. Viruses rarely tend to pop up on this forum.

This.
There is alot of people that dont obey that rule, Seen many people who include everything and not just the .pwn & scriptfiles.

Not everyone has a anti virus software, sure its their fault though. But I think you should be able to download a GM without worrying about a virus from here...

Seen many other forums have this rule, The admins/moderators needs to approve the post first though. And you can simply do a scan from virustotal directly without having to download the file, so the mod/admins computer wont get infected. Sure it would be more work for you guys... but yeah.
