Completely agree.
Also depends on what type of player you have (regulars, random, registrations etc).
For example we have a server with a couple regulars (about 30) and had some randoms who joined,
sometimes stayed and became a regular and other times left and never returned.
But our problem was that the 'hackers/cheaters' did the same. So we decided to make it a private server
with a invitation only system and a probation system. Don't behave or cheating: BAN.
If it was a real pain in the ass: Server password change.
But our server is also up 24/7 and monitored by a steady group of admins who even know each other
in RL and there is a maximum of 1 to 2 hours (in total) a day that there may not be an admin present.
So yeah thats up to you what you want todo, you can indeed take care of good admin's (in the FIRST place).
And then you can decide to make it private, but if that is possible depends on your type of server and
gameplay.
Our server is a serious role-play server with a forum, website and even android app's to progress, so we
don't have much of a choice when the server was 'harassed' by cheaters.
