I have had audacity working in the past, and it did what I needed.
Some "upgrade" uninstalled audacity, and now it's not in my system anymore. If I try to install it, it complains about unresolved dependencies.
If I make it to ignore the dependencies and install it by force, the resulting "audacity" launches, but works horribly. Any operation takes
at least 10 seconds to compute, and it's completely unable to sample any input from my microphone. After the first attempt it will complain it
can't open the input device, no matter which device I select (even if I select the one which "worked" but didn't sample anything). It's unusable.
I can't find any other working sound editor with support for tracks.
I tried installing gnu sound from the repository. It doesn't complain about any missing dependencies and installs ok, but it crashes with a segmentation fault.
I'm running OpenSUSE 10.3 and have tried as both root and my normal user
account. Any help appreciated.
