I've seen the sa-mp.gs advertised in someone's signature and thought I'd check it out. Although it does seem legitimate (and very generous), is there some sort of catch which isn't specified? For example, far from 100% uptime, not handling 30 connections very well, constant server side crashing etc.

For something free, obviously you can't expect any luxuries, which is absolutely fine. I'm just wondering if it has any other catches and if it's worth it. Does anyone here use their free servers?

Also, are the individuals who run this "scheme" members of the forum, if so, who are they?

What did you expect? Free is just a limited aspect of 'Paid'. You won't get even half of what services you want from a free host. Don't expect it to act like a top notch host.
