On some posts that contain downloads it says "No mirrors allowed", what exactly are mirrors?

In simple: Mirrors are downloads that are uploaded to another website where you can alternatively download it from if you want or the maindownload has gone missing somehow.

Some authors don't like mirrors because it makes the download count less accurate. Some want everyone to use strictly the link they provided to know how many people downloaded it (or to receive more traffic).
