My community had a RP script being written for us, (not an edit) and halfway through our head scripter abandoned the project, how difficult would it be for a new scripter to pick up where he left off and continue the project? I guess what i'm asking is, did our project leave with him and should we start from scratch with a new person, or is it salvageable.

As long as its well documented, there shouldnt be any problem with another programmer to continue working on it.
