Avast is failure, it says my gta_sa.exe is a virus, I mean seriously?
Some anti-virus softwares just pretends that a program is a virus, just to get people to buy the pro version, so, I wouldn't recommend an anti-virus as I don't have one, and I wont even bother downloading one, but Avira antivirus is good for internet.

Avast sucks, I made a couple of tests with it and it failed almost every time. I recommend Kaspersky or ESET Nod32.

I scan my pc each month with malwarebytes. Seems to do the trick for me.

Kasparsky is also very good also.
Many AV's aren't usually good at scanning system registry's (where true Malware likes to hide), so it's good to have somthing specifically for that. I like Spyhunter for that (though the free version doesn't remove them automatically).

BitDefender Security Essentials 2013 or Avira.
