Can we mix y_timers and regular timers? As in will it have bugs?

I guess you can use both. y_timers are just an alternative, but they won't bug regular ones.

Because if I could mix it, I would not have to rewrite the timers I already have, and there are plenty.

They won't bug regular ones but if you want to make y_timers then you must rewrite all of them (convert them to y_timers) but if you just want to write some timers in y_ and let others regular, you can.
