I was just wondering because my server has been shut down because my parents (yes my parents) think that it is illegal and is file sharing to run a SAMP server and to even play SAMP. Is this true?

No. SAMP is perfectly legal.

I think your parents think that you actually share the game itself and not just a server which clients who (hopefully) bought the game can play on. They have to get the game in some way to be able to play with you, tell them that and I'm sure they'll understand.

If you didnt buy samp but use a downloaded version, then yes playing samp with a cracked version is as illegal as playing the normal cracked game, and forbidden by samps TOS.
The server however is fine in any case.

There is nothing wrong with SAMP, and its perfectly fine to use and run.
