Galaxy S3 (i got the S2), simply because you get more phone for less money.
Iphone 5 is just an ripoff of the iphone 4 with larger screen and poor quality plastic.

I am an Apple fan, and most Apple fans are like OMG GET THE IPHONE 5 ITS AMAZING and I did, but to tell you the truth I wish I hadn't. It's worse than the iPhone 4. Just get an iPhone 4 unless you want Siri (which is shit and useless anyway).

Actually 4 and 4s has lots of differences than just Siri. I'm talking about internet speed (HSDPA on 4 has 7.4mbps, 4s goes up to 14.4mbps), camera (i think 4 had 5megapixels and 4s has 8 ) processor etc etc.
Anyways, for the OP. I'd go for the ip5. 5 does have hell of a better processor, bigger screen. It is kinda uncomfortable to hold in hand in first place, but you will get used to it (it took me like a week lol).
Also, I think ip5 makes S3 look like a cheap plastic

I dont see why someone who can choose any phone should get an iphone.
Most apple fans probably never read any comparing reviews.
So, save your parents some money and get something better than an iphone.
