Question about IP lease
#1

Hi, thx for reading.

I was wondering of somebody could explain me something about the lease of an IP address.
When I type ipconfig /all in command prompt it says Lease expires Monday, January 18, 2038 8:13:53 PM.

- So, does this mean my public IP address will be changed at 2038? Or does it mean something else?
- When it does change at 2038, am I covered with a static IP till that time?

Thanks!

PS: Sorry for my bad English.

Basically, the time kicks in when you're not using your computer, so if you turn it off now and log back in after the expiration date, it'll expire. If you'd keep your PC on till 2038 it will not expire. If it expires and you turn on your computer, your network card will ask over the network if there are any DHCP servers, this is most likely controlled by your router. Your DHCP server will then most likely supply a new IP address to your computer.

I'm assuming your working behind a router, so you're talking about your local address.
