This code will just check if that vehicle has engine on or off, and there's nothing wrong i can see in it. And probably when the player enters the vehicle, the engine is off. So I guess you have somewhere in the script that the vehicle's engine stays off even when a player enters the vehicle.

No, the engine is on. As I would not be able to drive it, if it was not. I would have to start the car again, which I don't.

Also, when I get out of the car, /engine again once I get back in it shuts off, doesn't start back, so that is not the case.
