Question: About Ping in sa-mp [by: Tenshi ]
#1

Ok, Lately i have, in my server for years, a ping kicker that ONLY kicks drivers, and i was thinking of making this just remove, to save the players from being kicked (and annoy them)

Now, my question is;
Do players with high ping causes any affect on servers (i know on some players would be sometimes hard to kill)
but on a scale server-wise, will players with high ping have some-what-affect on servers?

( my server is running 0.3b and *0.3c samp ) *main server.

@Tenshi, instead of kicking you could reconnect the player.

If you have like locked vehicles, or a vehicle ownership when only the player can enter, players with high ping will just beable to get into other players vehicles.

No, they will not.
The closest thing that can happen is: a person who does not have high ping will see the laggy player "enter" the vehicle, but on the laggy players screen, he will not be in the vehicle.

you sound like some of my idiot players, how in the hell do you " reconnect a player " ?

and GUYS, stay focus on the question. lol

Is laggy players, other than harder to kill, make a huge impact on server's performance?
( i know laggy players glitch other things sometimes, they dont spawn right or other small problems)

Alright if you have a high ping, you do have a great chance of making players around you lag, so yes ping kicker is good. It also doesn't show correctly what the person with the high ping is doing. for example if he trys to get inside a car, you see him TELEPORT inside, and if his driving a car you'll see him go forward, backward, forward backward, ye it's kinda annoying.

I agree with Zeeman, laggers are just annoying, to kick them is the best way

No other than just being really hard to kill.

You are wrong. High Ping players have no impact on the server. The only thing that high ping effects is them self. You are wrong.

You are wrong also. Laggy players will enter, as the slap, or whatever is used to keep players from entering the vehicles will be completly passed because they lag so bad, they never get the slap, and they CAN drive the vehicle. I'll record a video and post it here if you want.

Only thing high pingers do is create it harder to kill people.

Oh Guys -.-

If the player got higher ping , then the player respond much later to the server then the rest of the players , they dont affect the server with anything , but they are annoying for the example you want to kill someone who got ping 800 but when you shot him nothings happend becouse he is in another place on his san andreas than where you actualy see him , and in a drived car is the same thing , if you are passager you will see that car like *teleporting* from 1 in 1 meters and is pretty annoying -.-

edit: sorry i didnt see the second comments page xD i saw only the first one , my fault -.-

Pings until 300 shouldn't affect the server and its players much, in theory:

If you have a ping of 60ms on the server the server takes 60ms to send the package and for the user to receive it.

With 300 of ping there would be a delay, but it shouldn't affect that much.

I don't get what you said. If they have high ping they will just perform all the actions that the server requests with a small delay. But they will perform all the actions. So if the server is scripted to slap a player when he tries to enter a locked vehicle the player will always be slapped.
What you are talking about is packet loss. Usually when a player has an high ping he has a bad connection too (Or he is just using all his bandwith to download porn on P2P). And in these cases the player will lost many packets so if the server send to the client the request to perform a "slap action" the client won't receive it.
And going back to the topic. An high ping itself won't affect the server in any way but as an high ping usually means a bad connection it can mess up all the datas the server has about the player. For example: If you have an anticheat that detects when a player spawn nitro on his car it can ban a player wrongly if the server doesn't receive the packet that says to the server that the player has entered a modding shop and bought nitro.
And another thing that increases with the high ping is the packets disorder. When a player has an high ping you usually see him jumping from one position to another one then coming qiuckly back to his previous position. That happens because the server receive client cords in the wrong order. And this can affect the server too. Using the same example i used before. If the server receives that nitro has been added to the car before receiveng packets about him entering the modding shop and buying it the player will be banned.
So even if high ping doesn't crash your server i suggest you to keep a ping kick system on your server to avoid many small issues.

I believe it depends on how the server is coded, actually. I know "Crazybobs" has lag when players with 400+ ping connect; so do several other servers and even my own.

I remember reading a post somewhere that ping doesn't affect the server itself. This was when the forum was SMF, and I can't find it now :/ Although higher ping players would be laggy, and probably a nuisance.

I've realized when people use hacks - their ping goes up, anyone got an idea why?
