Lanmode not working or something?
#1

I am trying to setup a private server for just me and my little nephews to play on but when I try to connect locally by setting lanmode to 1 and restarting the server and connecting on another computer in the house, I get "Connecting to 192.168.1.XX:7777" "Connection Failed. Retrying..." over and over again. My friend across the street confirmed it is in the server list and he could connect to it.

I've also tried:

192.168.1.1:7777
MYCOMPUTERIP:7777
SonsofAnarchy.kicks-ass.org:7777 <- My DynDns IP

*Note*: The XX above is actual numbers used to connect to my computer found in cmd prompt.

But those don't work either.

Edit: More Information!

I'll provide screenies, ask for more if you like, nothing is working =/

-This is what my server.cfg file looks like.

- I went ahead and port forwarded anyways just incase.

- Desertsoulz is Mine, note that it says 192.168.1.64

- As you can see I tried every thing, only one shows the 192.168.1.64 one.

- But, I get this over and over and over again....

Can anyone help me?

192.168.0.1 is generally the LAN IP address for the host. But it depends on the router and the setup.

If you want other IP's to play on it you will have to portforward your ports, it will appear on the internet but you can lock it and tell the passwords to only your Nephews

If not try connecting 127.0.0.1:[port]

You do not need to forward ports in other for other computers in the LAN to connect to each other, forwarding ports is only for the internet. Additionally that wouldn't work as he explained his nephews are on the same network, you cannot connect to services on your own network directly through the internet, they need to be accessed locally.

You don't need to set the lanmode to 1 to connect from the Local Area Network. All you should need to do is run the server, and any other devices connected to the same LAN should be able to connect to the server through the LAN IP of the computer running the server software.

For example my main house PC is 192.168.1.21, if I ran an SA-MP server on it, and wanted to connect to it from another computer located on the same network, I would just connect to 192.168.1.21. To get the IP of the PC you are hosting the server on, open a command prompt and type ipconfig, and look for the IPv4 address of the active network adapter. I'm assuming that you may be trying to connect to the router, as the IP of the router is generally 192.168.1.1 or .254. So make sure you're connecting to the LAN IP of the computing with the SA-MP server running on it.

This sounds like a problem with your network configuration, can you ping the other computers in your Local Area Network? Try pinging the computer running the server from another computer in the network that you are trying to connect to, if you cannot ping, you have an error in your network setup.

Also if you want to remove it from the internet list on SA-MP, you need to set announce to 0 in the server.cfg.

Heres what you do
First, find your IP
-VISTA-
Open the Start menu, search CMD
Then open the file called "cmd.exe"
when it is opened type "ipconfig"
Without the "s of course
Example lines:
Link-local IPv6 Addres.....: XXXXXXXX
IPv4 Address.....: 192.168.1.10X
Sometimes it could be 192.168.1.104, 1.105 ETC
Then, go into the SA-MP Menu
Go to Favorites
and click Add Server
Then type your IP then your server port (Most likely 7777)
Example:
192.168.1.101:7777
once its added
It should say"YOURSERVERNAME 0/?? Players PING MODE
(EG.Mylanserver 0/50 players 4 ping grandlarceny)
If your hosting a LAN Server
make sure Lanmode is set to 1
I suggest making your max players 50 if its a lan server
your ping should be Low,really low.

My first look at the screenshots tells me you're using the 0.3a client to connect to a 0.3b server...

Note how the first one states "SA-MP 0.3a Started" but the other one displays 0.3b in the server info.

What I do find odd is the 0.3b on the title bar in the second image unless that is from a different PC.

No that was screenshots from my nephews computer, both of them, the rest is from mine.

How is the Client different from the Server?

How do I know what version my server is?

And why can my friend and I connect but they can't?

Well that screenshot taken from where the game tries to connect but fails states version 0.3a so that client must be version 0.3a, your server uses 0.3b so I'm guessing that's the problem.
Your friend and you must have the right version but the other PC in your house must have version 0.3a so all you need to do is get the 0.3b client installed on that PC.
