I have recently converted my forums from SMF to vBulletin 3.8.5.
I wanted to know what you guys prefer?
What i like about vBulletin:
Extra features.
Added security.
Extra User Friendly.
Better setup.
What i like about SMF:
Its easier to install.
Easier to add themes.
Easier to add mods.
I favor vBulletin.

vb is just more installation process that it.
But I dont suggest to buy it if you dont have a good ( big ) community, youll just waste money

I think its better for communities that arent just based on servers (( mine )) but yeah, for just servers, do SMF.
I do like the extra little features here and there of VB though.

vBulletin is great for large communities, and if you want a software with tons of features and security.
SMF is more of a smaller community type of software. It's security is not the best, but with intense care, you can keep your forum safe.

SMF is easier to install and doesn't come with a ton of crappy restrictions (signature lengths, message lengths, time waiting between posts, etc.)

Yes, but the limits are so little it's ridiculous. And if it's so easy, people should fix it when obviously no one likes it *cough*.
Is this ironic, or...
