Hello,
I think it is VERY necessary that the sa-mp team does something against the whole dead links. It is very annoying if someone put a lot of work in a release and the release is EXACTLY what you need, but the link is down and the author inactive), so the link will be down forever.
Sometime another one has the script / plugin /program, but this isn't always the case. And also it isn't always the case that he has the latest version.
So the sa-mp team should implement one of these suggestions:
- "force" the scripter to use the attachments feature of this forum. (Example: Show a big red notice to use the inbult attachments when creating a new thread in one of the releases forums). But the creator is still allowed to make mirrors ofc.
- Make something OFFICIAL like Perl's cpan http://www.cpan.org/
(there was already something called "uploadffs". But on of the causes it went down was that you could upload EVERYTHING and it wasn't dedicated to SA-MP Scripts and plugins. So the sa-mp team should create a site only allowing sa-mp plugins and scripts and no other files (so nobody can upload illegal things. The application shouldn't be hosted there, since you can't distinguish SA-MP applications and non SA-MP applications by a script and also there aren't that many sa-mp applications). Also an admin team could review new scripts. (If you look in the forums: it isn't that much work since there are only ~10 new scripts/plugins/applications per day).
As argument against this some of you might say "If sa-mp's cpan is gone, all scripts, plugins and programms are gone, too." But from something official I assume that a experienced server administrator cares about security and has a backup plan, so you don't need to apprehend this.
This would also prevent the "link is down" bumps.
What do you think about this? Do you agree?
