[Suggestion] The most useful ban system - MAC and HD ban
#1

Dear SA:MP Staff,

I really hope a programmer will read this.
Everyone hates cheaters on SA:MP, but we can't do anything about them, because most of them has dynamic IP Adress. If I range-ban the IP, others players won't be able to connect.

If we could identify people by their MAC adress and Hard Drive Serial Number, it could be easier to ban people from the servers, making it way harder for them to come back. I hope this can be done.

I think this would be useful for every servers.

Thanks for reading this

Ouch, I can imagine AV going nuts over SA:MP for doing that. But really sounds like a good idea.

Mac addresses are easy to change. But if it's possible to get someone's mac address, you could set up the IP Range ban for that mac address only.

Hard Drive Serial Number can also be changed without too much hazzle (You just need another harddrive + some work)

But if you change your MAC, you cant access to internet (if you dont have router). And only a few member can change... Because its not easy. So its a better mode to ban cheaters

It is actually possible to do without a physical router, but then you need another computer and maybe some kind of a proxy to connect through (I doubt the cheaters would do all that for that tiny reward cheating gives)

At the moment, ban evading is a piece of piss, it takes a kid 2 seconds to jump behind a proxy or reset their router and get back ingame. Although in the grand scheme of things, changing a MAC address and a HD serial isn't hard, it's hard, but more importantly, TEDIOUS for the average kid who wants to jump into whatever server he can find and airbrake around. Most people who have nothing better to do than get themselves banned so that they can evade repeatedly aren't very intelligent, ask them to change their MAC address or HD serial and they won't know what the fuck you're talking about, or they won't know how to do it, or they simply won't want to go to the trouble of doing it.
Ban evade that?

I doubt somebody will change his hard drive every 2 minutes to annoy people lol

I think a better system would be if every sa-mp client would have unique ID. So you ban the ID of the client, and to change it cheaters would need to reinstall the client, and I bet 70% of cheaters won't bother reinstalling it to be banned again..

First of all , There not hacker's there just player's who are desperate to get a kill.
Second of all , I love banning hacker's if you ban them forever there wont be anyone to be banned , Making an end to the world of Anti-Hacks , And then eventually they will find a way.
Third of all , Yes , Impossible. =)) Please correct me if im wrong =D

This isn't steam you don't pay for this modification, so don't try to make of this mod what steam did, is simply impossible.

The reason that steam works is beacuse you have to pay to play games, and have your own account.

Impossible is a strong word. Nothing is impossible on the internet, it just takes the right person to do it.

Anyway, MAC ban is not as good as you think, as it only takes a guy 2 seconds to log into their router and change the MAC adress, and I dont like the idea about gaining the HD serial either.
Its "almost impossible" to keep cheaters/hackers out, as there are so many ways to unban theirself.

Anyway, I wish you good luck with this topic, but it wont get far

A ban system within the client itself wouldn't be a good idea either, as it's easy to get around those

How about this. Which could be done
For everyone who installs sa-mp
and first time they join any server, have thier mac address or PC name, or something that would identify the players as someone because of their computers, and some how register that over sa-mp.

maybe have a new system to detect it, and added on to bans.

have maybe a serial generate to identify the user, so when the players joins, the servers knows who the player is with a little coding done.

so if the players is banned for what ever reason, his IP plus his SA-MP ID.
the only way they would evade, if they use another PC, or reinstall their windows.

We dont have to go crazy with it, just some how detect something windows already has and use that as a serial ID.

Registry key under a fairly unique name unrelated to SA:MP. The hive is fairly complicated to the simple minded people. Client gets that key and is identified by the server.

It's still pretty easy to go around that, if you know what to change the key to...

It isn't that hard to edit the registry :P (Even through it can be risky)

Atleast it's still more time costly than turning your router off an on.
