So I'm planning to clean the whole SA map and make my own island with city etc. I've looked around about a lot of topics covering mapping and modding and i have experience in 3D and texturing too. I think I can handle it. And I know that custom maps work in SA-MP. I have tested it. But i wanted to know if it is allowed by SA-MP? I mean, if I make that kind of a server everyone has to download that map/mod to play (and it's easy to check if a player has it or not. Just put them on a roof top on the custom map where in SA there's air and check if he falls down or not. I hope you got the idea). Will my server get banned from SA-MP or something? Because I don't want to start something and then get a huge disappointment(which I will if it's not allowed anyway). So i hope it's allowed because I don't see nothing bad about that. Waiting for an answer.
BTW, have you seen someone doing a server with a custom map? I haven't. And what problems could happen by using a custom map in SA-MP?

I don't know. I'm just really excited to start this because this has been my dream since summer '09. And I have a possibility to get a new videocard soon (this one is a bit burned and i can't play games and run big applications), so I could start it. I'm just worrying about any problems which could kill my project.
Remember: I'm planning to make my own 3D models and textures. It's not just a map made from the default SA objects. So everyone would have to download and install it to play.
So, is someone done something like this before? If yes, can I see it somewhere? And what problems could happen by using another map instead of SA?

There is GTA United and Gostown maps available for SA-MP. But these were made by a whole experienced team over a period of many, many months.

If the map won't be sticking out of the game world borders (not map borders!), everyone will have the same mod and all coords will be adjusted for the map there should be no problems, but better try it before making server

The SA data files are somewhat protected from modification in SA-MP and there is no easy way to change this without hacking the client.
We did produce a special version called 'gtau-mp', which was essentially a modding version of SA-MP. gtau-mp allowed you to modify the GTA data files freely. gtau-mp was only a beta test though, and we found it was fun but not really that popular. I decided to put gtau-mp on the backburner until GTA United 1.2 was released. I read somewhere that GTA United 1.2 was going to include all 3 GTA III cities in 1 map (LC/VC/SA). I think they might have given up on this for technical reasons though.
I know there are some unofficial SA-MP client hacks to allow modding, like that gtasrv.ru. For now I said they can host these mods until SA-MP comes out with an official modding version. I'm not sure when we'll produce this though. A lot of people are still content playing San Andreas the way it is, without any custom artwork or data files. There is also a belief by some people in the SA-MP beta team that having 2 seperate SA-MP mods with different server lists would divide the community.
So, there are options available right now but none are officially supported.
