Confused... Is my server online?
#1

Okay, I've set up just a simple server to test this. I already know about all the port forwarding and that...

I was just at the portforward website trying to figure out if I could forward the ports to my Wireless modem which uses a mobile phone network (3/3G) to connect to the internet. And as I thought, no.

However, there was a topic in the forums that suggested a test to see if you were behind a router or not. I don't know the difference myself. It basically said that you should check what portforward.com says your IP is and check what Command Prompt says it is. If they match, you aren't behind a router. And it turned out I'm not. Then the topic goes onto say that if you're not behind a router, your ports are forwarded and you should have no trouble with P2P/servers etc.

So I excitedly launched my server... And instead of connecting to localhost, I used my IP:Port - which surely means that I'm not connected locally, I'm connected via the internet... Right? If so... Yay! I can host SAMP servers (I only want to do this so I can test scripts with multiple players, not being too ambitious yet). Or can I? Am I actually connected to myself via the internet and how do I tell?

I'm also able to see myself on the internet listing. How the hell is this possible on wireless?!

I've had my sever up and no one is connecting... But who'd want to connect to an unnamed server with max 5 slots, eh?

You can use Westie's Masterlist Checker to test if your server is actually online:
