How does Windows Home Server work?
#1

I'm thinking of getting a Home server, and I'm wondering if they're basically like a personal dedicated server, where you can run programs on them, because I'd like to host my SA:MP server on there, or are they JUST for extra storage?

It's pretty much a file server that you can't do much with. As far as I know the only ones you can get legit (the HP ones) don't have a video card or anything.
Other than that, it's basically Windows Server 2003 for Small Business or something. Before it came out I beta tested it for them and it was pretty good, but like I said it's worthless they way they released it unless you get a non-legit copy.

I know, but I'm saying it doesn't have a video card so you can't hook up a monitor to it. Also, I'm not sure if Remote Desktop will work with it. But I don't think you can run anything but a file server unless you use Remote Desktop (if possible)

Actually, Buy a server, or a normal pc, boot it up with windows server standard or enterprise, and you get;
file server
exchange server
active directory
dns
dhcp
print server
media server
vpn server
firewall
antivirus
HTTP Server
Remote Access
Domain Controller
Main Server
Terminal Server
WINS server
Streaming Media Server.
Soo many...
also
Group Policy is good if you install Domain Controller.

If your just going to run a sa-mp server on it then why install server, server will have many features you will not use. As far as remote desktop that is os based in which you can have two concurrent connections to your server at one time. Windows server is just a lil much for running just a samp server, but if you plan to go into an IT career then it would be good practice to work with server os.

Yeah, but Windows Server is expensive, and all he wants to do is run a SA-MP server, far as I know. To be completely honest, you could run SA-MP on any old PC with a good processor, good amount of RAM, and a decent network card.
