For that reason I'm not using it, and it kinda sucks cause I wanted to use the features, but whatever, its not the end of the world. I just don't get the logic behind doing this, it just doesn't make sense, considering the feature to disable downloading was already included in the 0.3.8 RC package.

I also noticed a difference in installer size.

No, it is not a must for it to only happen during connection, that happens only with skins, though objects are downloaded once you face them, BUT you can make that happen on connect as well if you move addmodel* from your artwork file into your script under OnGameModeInit AFAIK.
