A pawn compiler is one, there is no alternative. People usually mix between a compiler and an editor.

pawno.exe is an editing program, however pawncc.exe is the compiler. You can update the compiler and use Zeex's versions (which i think may fix your crashes).

Otherwise, you need to fix the script yourself.
