I feel like this is a really unnecessary overreach of the rules, and one that hasn't been enforced in this way before.

These threads pop up all the time with people asking for "best [gamemode type] servers??", and they're usually pretty helpful - not just to the OP but to everybody else who reads them, even people who play and promote one specific server but are interested in finding others. And not every server owner posts an ad!

Particularly, the rules state that:

Often it's not server owners responding to these threads, it's players that feel passionately about a server that they enjoy playing on. I think others would agree that this falls into the former category.

As well as that, the rules allow for users to include advertisements for their server in their signature. I think it's a bit useless to allow this considering users can post borderline-useless posts in any thread and score free advertising from their signature, but explicitly not allow people to respond to somebody's request for certain types of servers.
