Updating SA:MP's GUI for the 21st century (For 0.4a)
#1

Hello,

I know there are sh*tloads of topics on the updates of SA:MP blah blah blah.
But IMO, we need to update the interface a bit.. I mean, it's still looks like it's from Windows XP.
And Kalcor and other devs might've already worked on it, or said a Yes or a No, but I'm just saying that it would be much better and fresh!

I might upload a Screenshot of my custom launcher that's styled for Windows 8.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and please tell me your opinions!

Yeah that's true but there was so many topics about this subject and dev team ... well, the didn't changed anything. If you have any sugestions or some screenshots please post it here

Perhaps they should give the users the option to choose. Some people have slow computers and complicating the GUI may just slow their computers down. On the other hand, that's something which I personally would like to see and use.

Well, this is an interesting opinion. The XP theme is more 'pazzaz' than the Windows 8 one(Since W8 uses flat colours and no shading etc.) so XP one is meant to be more consuming.

According to Microsoft, Basic W8 programs(For example, the SA:MP launcher) is meant to be ~20% faster due to less shading, Cleaner code, and Visuals on older PCs. But the difference in speed should be basically invisible.

I might remake the whole SA:MP launcher in C#, (Without a working interface(No working buttons) just to demonstrate what a mean by new design) and upload it.

Back on topic, I think we shouldn't allow that, but what i think we should have are custom themes on the launcher. Even though there isn't much point, and it is pretty pointless, I reckon it would be a nice touch.

You're not making a very convincing argument.

I've always wondered, why am i not seeing custom samp launchers all over the place, even tho the SA:MP team publicly shares the way the changed gta_sa.exe's parameters work, and explained the server's query mechanisms. In my opinion, as long as the launcher is just a random window, i don't give a shit. What would be really nice, however, would be that there would be a new fullscreen (or windowed, depending on the settings) UI for samp, something like steam's big picture, but obviously with just "server list" and stuff on it.

Officially youre not allowed to query the masterlist with anything else but the samp client. Sure its no problem to do it and to parse the servers in a nice list, but probably you wouldnt be allowed to release it here.

Updating the client gui was already discussed earlier. I dont see why you would need that though. You barely spend 0.5% of your samp time with the client itself, and it really doesnt matter how it looks like.
Some functional updates would be more useful, e.g. server filters or a search, but they also arent vital, some websites also offer that.

There is nothing wrong with the client GUI simple is better in my opinion however it would be nice if server name could be added to the filter.

Yeah, maybe servername is a good option.

As for the GUI, I only agree if they add an option to chose a low memory GUI (The classic one) or the more stylish and sexay Windows 8 GUI.

I wholeheartedly support this. If anything it's long overdue. While it's perfectly fine the way it is; it would be very nice to enter the new version with a new GUI. It doesn't need to be anything fancy but just upgrading it to be a bit more suiting to our time would nice.

Didn't someone create a mock-up PSD of a modern SAMP GUI?

There was a thread about it a while ago.

Lets make revolution. We want more! But now, really. It wont't be bad to update look because I fewl like I am logging from 1989's.

Only thing I think the server browser needs is a way to search host names and fix the fact that if you save a server password and that password changes you can not save the new password.

I didn't realize the SA:MP GUI looked so dated...

Microsoft wanted MORE for Windows 8, but all they did is ruin the tradition of the Windows versions (I mean, a Windows isn't a Windows without a f**king start menu!). But, now they are slowly trying to fix it with the new updates, but they still disappointed us a lot.
