Setting up SMF Forums for SA-MP Server Website
#1

Yes hello. I just purchased a domain name from Godaddy for my SA-MP server and I need to get at least my forums running. But I'm clueless as to how to go about doing that. I know I have to install smf forums. And that feature is open to me via cPanel via free hosting via Volt Host. But I'm seeing these videos on how to set it up and a few of them are confusing.

One says I need a database while the other says I don't. But on the cPanel where it describes what SMF Forums is, it says in the description that I require a Database. So do I install SMF and it creates a database automaticly? Or do I have to manualy set up a database first then install smf?

Also, I want it set up so that they go to: http://worldofaviations.com/forums since my website is not been set up yet. So I just give my players the forum address and that will serve as my website for the time being till I have the website set up. Is that even possible? To install and set up SMF Forums without having a website set up first? And if so how?

Basicly, can someone give me a step by step instructions on how to set up and install SMF Forums via Volt Host Cpanel and get it up and running on the directory: http://worldofaviations.com/forums? That would really help me out!

And sorry if I'm asking too much. I'm still new at this. Anyways, hopefully someone can help me out. Thank you all for taking the time to read all of this. I know it's a lot but I try to be as detailed as possible.

Thanks,
Airin

BROOOOOOOOOOOO. THERE IS A WEBSITE DEDICATED FOR SMF ONLY. DON'T YOU THINK IT WOULD BE WISE TO GO THERE INSTEAD? Also, quick ****** gave me thousands of tutorials on how to install SMF step-by-step. Here's one: http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=4.0

That's the thing though. My host has an SMF icon to install it. So do I just click on the icon and follow the steps? Do I need to create a MySQL Database first or will the SMF Installer create one for me? Do I need to create the /forums directory first or will the SMF Installer do that for me as well? Do I still need to download the SMF Files from SMF Website and upload them to my host? Or since my host has the SMF Instalation icon do I just click on the icon and go through the step by step process? These are the questions I need answered. Sorry if I sound bothersome. I've just never done this before.

You could either do it from the panel, or download the files manually and upload them to your host directory.

Your host(go daddy) should provide you with mysql, just set a database up and use those details to install smf on. You can install SMF in any directory you like, if you want to install it in mywebsite.com/Forums, you will need to create that directory. You can also just install it in the main directory for your website, doing so will result in your website being the entire smf forum.
