How not to loose interest in a SAMP project?
#1

I am wondering how not to loose interest in a SA-MP project? I have been struggling with keeping up the programming on my server project.. I work hard on it for 2 weeks and then I loose interest in it, after 2 months i'm back into programming it again, eventually I just drop the project before it's even done.. Any tips?

Show it to your friends/buddies

They will most likely like the project and give compliments and may also push you to go on with it.

As well as others liking the project, you need to ensure you like it aswell, because if you don't like it? What is the point in continuing! Enjoy the project and you will keep it going strong

I'm running a stable Sa-Mp server from like 10 days, i started scripting the gamemode in January 2012, i don't even remember how much times i dropped it, for various reasons, lack of free time, lazyness etc.

I show'd the project at a friend and he liked it, i started scripting again and developed it until reaching 10k lines (still growing).

We tested, tested, tested and tested, finding bugs, fixing bugs, adding features, anticheat and more.

I don't even remember how many times i left the project, restarted, left and then restarted again.

Now we hold a server with 30/30 everyday and we've got over 3k players registered in just 10 days. (No, im not advertising, just showing you don't need to quit just because you lost interest in a project).

The point of my post is: If you like doing something, go straight forward, dont quit, you'll never know what will happen!

Best of luck.

I've found out that if I think about the question 'will I get any players on my server?' I usually loose my interest a tad bit.. How can I convince myself that I will get players and what does a server need in order to get them (and yes, my script is made from stratch so no NGRP edit)?

Get someone else to work with you, it will help you a lot, trust me. When you drop it, he will continue, and pull you in again, me and my friend are doing this for about half a year now, and we never stoped our project. x)

If YOU dont like YOUR server, how you can expect that OTHER players will like it?

Why do you think about it anyway? I'm making a gamemode with a lot of features (freeroam) and I don't want to have a SA:MP server, not even in the future. I just like doing that! And yes, I've stopped in the past for few months and then I started again. Moreover, if you have a good friend that used to play or even play together, then don't be shy to ask his opinion about the x, y thing. My friend tells me ideas and I make them, I ask him about this or that and I do the one we both agree. If you and your friend like it, then don't worry about what the others think, it will be good.

~ Best of luck!

You just answered your own question.

Make an unique script. You like it? Others will like it aswell.
Make sure there are atleast 2 players online so the server won't look empty.
Make sure there is always something to do, something you can do by yourself (1 player)

And give your server an interesting name, something that makes players think: 'hey, i've gotta try that out'

You need someone else with same visions, when you're down, he will keep stuff up and other way around.
