What are your views on piracy and GTA?

Firstly, I'm not at all concerned with the legality of the matter.
I just want your opinion. If your opinion revolves solely around the legality, I forgive you.

Alright guys and girls. As many of you already know, it can be quite the task to get your hands on a copy of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for PC.

At least I know that it's not sold at any gamestores where I live. You might find one used copy at gamestop or some generic store that has a million scratches.

However, if you do your research, a new copy is around $5.00 USD.

With that in mind, here's what I know about pirating it.

I've never heard of Rockstar Games pursuing anyone who downloaded the game illegally. (At least not in later years.)

Now, here's my opinion.

I think supporting the developers of anything, be it a game or else, is very important.
However, I don't think $5.00 is going to help them much.
Also, we're keeping the game alive. I think this goes for everyone when I say that their work is much appreciate by the SA-MP community.

I currently own two copies of GTA-IV. I bought it when it first came out for the xbox, and ps3. $80.00 each retail value.
I'm going to buy GTA-V.

I downloaded GTA:SA for free because I couldn't find it in any stores.

I don't feel as if I've done anything wrong here.

Discuss.

I've opened a topic similar to this that just got deleted, so I'd expect that soon.

Even if you cannot find the game in stores there are other alternatives available, online distribution platforms such as Steam sell GTA:SA at Ј9.99/$14.99/€9.99 which works perfectly well with SA:MP. I'm sure it's easy to buy online too via sites such as Amazon, etc. I don't think there really is an excuse for piracy, even if the game is priced rather low. In fact, if the game is so low priced, what reason is there to pirate a game? I've heard of people pirating games because they are too expensive, not because they're cheap. If you genuinely enjoy the game and have played it for years as many of us have, then why is it not worth buying?

The steam version is hard to work with. I got mine at bestbuy for 10 bucks!

Besides, you get your money's worth when you buy it. Get it off the internet, it's illegal, a slap in the face to the supporters, and you're very limited to how you use it.

A way of downgrading from version 3.0 has been posted on the steam forums and can be found here

I dont like piracy at all, for games/movies/ TV episodes etc.

It takes MONEY to produce each of these things, and i think companies deserve it for the work they put into producing content for everyone to enjoy.

Supporting is very good, so giving $5 is not going to hurt anyone, its only $5. People can say that they cant get any, but that is a invlaid argument. Find a store, and if you cant find a store, order one online. As dugi said, the steam one can be downgraded, so piracy is not needed, for any game. Support your developers, and just don't do it. It's silly.

I completely agree with Kevin, piracy is illegal and it's like cheating the companies that produce them

Although I'm not in favor of piracy, I doubt it would be unaccurate to say that half(or more) than SA-MP's playerbase wouldn't be there if piracy didn't exist.

I myself bought the game twice for 10 euros, back in 2008. One for PS2 and one for PC!
